Odessa, Texas (KETK) - Texas parents arrested after 5-year-old with Down Syndrome found weighing 17 pounds

A Texas couple has been arrested after their 5-year-old son with Down Syndrome was found weighing 17 pounds.

According to the Associated Press, Isabel Rincon, 33, and Robert Rincon Jr., 42, both of Odessa, turned themselves in on Friday after officials found their child was severely malnourished and bruised.

The AP reports a probable cause affidavit showed the child's condition was reported to police on June 1 after Isabel took him to the hospital because of a bruised ear. The affidavit stated the boy had bed sores, bruising and weighed 17 pounds.

Child Protective Services took custody of the boy who was recently released from the hospital.

The pair remains in jail on charges of injury to a child. Their bonds were set at $200,000 each.
