REPORT: IRS online system 'partly fails' hours before tax deadline, some returns not going through

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KETK) - The electronic system used by the Internal Revenue Service, which allows tax payers to submit their returns online, has partially failed, according to The Washington Post.

The Washington Post reports the IRS is struggling to accept returns from widely used software programs such as TurboTax and Intuit — as well as from H&R Block.

IRS Acting Commissioner David J. Kautter tells The Washington Post citizens could continue to use those systems to file taxes, but some returns (as of now) were not going through to the IRS.

Kautter says the IRS would not punish taxpayers if their returns arrive late due to the glitch.

The agency is planning a "hard reboot" in order to fix the problem.
