Lufkin, Texas (KETK) - There is a lot of athletic talent in East Texas, and Angelina College in Lufkin is hoping to refine the skills of some young players.
Registration is now open for AC's youth summer basketball camps.
Campers will focus on the fundamentals of the game, led by coach Kyle Manary, his staff and some of the players.
"I grew up going to camps and that's what got me loving basketball is you're having fun with your friends, you're working hard and you can see progression, you can see yourself getting better and better," said Coach Manary. "What camps do is they take you from when you're not very good they get you better when you're really good they get you better than that."
Manary says the idea is to coach children when they are young so they can learn to love the sport.
To add more to the camp many of the AC Roadrunners will be working closely with the young campers.
"We like to do that just so the kids see familiar faces when we get out in the schools in the fall and they come to the games they already know all the players, the names, the positions, what they're about, it's just good interaction I think it's a special deal for the kids," Manary said.
He adds maybe a few future Roadrunners may be in the camps.
Camps are for boys and girls ages 8-18 and will run from June 13-15.
Each day will start at 9 a.m. and will conclude at 1 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $75 per person, campers only need to bring basketball and water or sports drink. Call 936-633-5206 to register.
