RECORDS: East Texas man to plead guilty in wreck that killed teen

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - A Kilgore man is expected to plead guilty to intoxication manslaughter after police say he caused a wreck that killed a Harleton teenager in 2016.

According to Gregg County judicial records, Thomas Henkel, 34, will plead guilty on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., in the 124th District Court of Judge Alfonso Charles in connection with the death of Lauren Elrod.

On Wednesday, June 8, 2016, Longview police received a call in reference to a fatal accident in the 1100 block of West Loop 281. Police say a Range Rover, driven by Henkel, was traveling eastbound on the loop when he crossed over the center median striking a Ford Escape, driven by Elrod.

Elrod as ejected from her vehicle after it rolled over and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Henkel was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and booked into the Gregg County Jail.
