Bronx, New York (KETK) - A New York City police officer is dead after officials say she was shot in the head while sitting in her patrol unit.
According to the Associated Press, Miosotis Familia, 48, died at a NYC hospital early Wednesday morning.
According to the NYPD, the "clear assassination" occurred in the Bronx around 12:30 a.m. Police say that's when Alexander Bonds, 34, shot and killed her through the patrol unit window. Officer Familia was a 12-year veteran of the NYPD.
Officer Familia's partner radioed for help while other area officers chased Bonds. The AP reports Bond drew his weapon and pointed it at the other officers, who then shot and killed him.
According to NBC New York, Bonds had been out on parole since 2013 for a Syracuse robbery.
