HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - Two people were arrested after an abandoned baby was found covered in bugs and dirt outside a Houston area apartment complex Thursday morning.
KPRC reports a resident at the complex in north Harris County heard the baby crying as he was on his way to work. He told the station that "she was there on the ground in the flower bed with ants. She was covered from head to toe and all in her ears... She had a lot of strength too. She was fighting."
Police were called soon after the baby was found, and when officers arrived on scene, they determined she was born less than an hour before she was abandoned, according to the KPRC report.
The KPRC report also states deputies followed a trail of blood into a nearby apartment, identified the child's mother, and arrested her along with another individual. Investigators were able to determine the baby was born inside the apartment then dumped in the bushes.
The baby was taken to a hospital down the street from the apartment complex and is in good condition, KPRC reports.
