LONGVIEW, Texas (Longview News-Journal) - A Longview woman has been released from jail after being incorrectly identified, charged and arrested in a 2015 Upshur County case.
Jessica Erin Archer, 29, was released from the Upshur County Jail on Oct. 31 — the same day the sheriff’s office realized she had been incorrectly identified in 2015 as a suspect in the case, Sheriff Larry Webb said Tuesday. Webb, who took office this year as sheriff, was not in the sheriff’s office in 2015 at the time Archer was identified as a suspect in a theft of a firearm case.
“This is a very regrettable occurrence, and procedures must always be in place to minimize mistakes that impact a person’s liberty,” Webb said. “Since taking office I have put in place policies and procedures that, if followed in good faith, will significantly limit any chance of a person being wrongly arrested or accused.”
