Longview officer seriously injured while serving warrant

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - Police arrested a 21-year-old Longview man Friday after he hospitalized a local officer.

According to Longview Police Department, at 6:20 a.m., Officer Zachary Atkinson was serving a warrant in the 4300 block of Price Lane. The suspect resisted arrested and began fighting with police. The officer was injured in the incident.

Officer Atkinson was taken to a Longview hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries. Officials stated the wounds are not life-threatening.

The attacker was identified as Estevan Olvera, Jr. He was arrested and charged with evading arrest and detention, resisting arrest and assault on a public servant. He also had six outstanding warrants.

Olvera was booked into the Gregg County Jail.
