Longview man sentenced to 50 years in prison for hitting 65-year-old couple with rock during robbery

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - A Longview man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery.

According to the Gregg County District Attorney's Office, Malique Makail Henderson, 21, pleaded guilty on Thursday, which resulted in the 50-year sentence.

Henderson was indicted on June 7, 2017, after police say he hit two people with a rock while attempting to rob them at their home in the 1000 block of South Green Street.

On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Henderson knocked on the door of the residence, then used a rock to hit the 65-year-old woman who opened the door. Police say Henderson forced his way into the house, hit a 65-year-old man and stole several items.

Henderson ran from the house, but was chased by neighbors who were able to lead police to his location.

Police arrested Henderson on two counts of aggravated robbery and burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony.

Henderson was booked into the Gregg County Jail on $1,500,000 bond.

During his sentencing, the couple whom he assaulted stated they forgave Henderson for his actions, but those actions did deserve a fair and just consequence.
