LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - A Longview man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of his 2-year-old daughter.
According to the Gregg County District Attorney's Office, on Monday, a district judge sentenced 28-year-old Aaron Bowling to 45 years behind bars for murder.
On December 20, 2015, Police were dispatched to the Contessa Inn and a local hospital on a reports of a photo with what appeared to a be a lifeless child. The photo had been sent to the child's grandparents via social media from the mother.
Police said the mother, Jamie Nelson, took the girl, Alanis Bowling, to the hospital. The child was unconscious when she arrived. A warrant previously revealed the girl had been lifeless for more than two hours.
Officers found the father at the Contessa Inn. He was pretending to be asleep and would not open the door when police made it to the location. He was later taken to the hospital where his daughter was receiving emergency care.
Detectives spoke with the parents about bruises found on the toddler and felt their answers were rehearsed.
An arrest warrant states the couple had blamed the girl's injuries on her tripping over a puppy, which resulted in the child's head hitting the floor.
Officials determined Alanis died from blunt force trauma, but the reason behind her death is unknown. Aaron Bowling was named as the person responsible for her murder.
