Head baseball, softball coaches leaving Spring Hill

Longview, Texas (Longview News-Journal) - For Mike Eckles, he wanted to leave things better than when he found them. For Ashton Brey, it was an opportunity to move closer to her family.

Eckles, who guided the Spring Hill Panther baseball team the last three years, has decided to lay down his fungo and retire from coaching after 26 years.

Brey, who like Eckles, arrived at Spring Hill prior to the 2014-15 school year to coach softball, is moving on to take the head volleyball post at Van.

“Losing two good coaches like Mike and Ashton is hard. That’s especially true with baseball and softball and their seasons ending in May,” Spring Hill Athletic Director Kelly Mercer said.
