Homes evacuated; more than 20 acres burn near Longview

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - More than 20 acres burned in a woods fire and homes were threatened Thursday after a fire spread just outside the city of Longview.

According to Gregg County Sheriff's Office, the fire began in a wooded area before moving closer to buildings. Evacuations were ordered for some who live along Williams Road.

Williams Road was shut down from Tryon Road to Alpine Road and will remain so late into the night. The public is asked to avoid the area.

No emergency responders or residents have been injured.

Firefighters will continue to put out hot spots before residents can return home.
