East Texas fugitive captured after 6 years on the run

TITUS COUNTY, Texas (KETK) - An East Texas fugitive who's been on the run for six years has been arrested.

According to the Titus County Sheriff's Office, Eric Alonzo Zaldivar-Orona, who's been on the lam since 2011 after he was indicted on kidnapping and burglary charges, was taken into custody in McAllen on Tuesday. He was brought back to East Texas and booked into the Titus County Jail.

Officials say the charges against Zaldivar-Orona stemmed from incidents that began in the summer of 2011 through November 2011.

At that time, Zaldivar-Orona was arrested when a Titus County investigator attempted to stop him for investigative purposes. However, Zaldivar-Orona refused to stop.

After a short chase, officials say they discovered Zaldivar-Orona had multiple electronic devices from numerous area residential burglaries that occurred in the weeks before his arrest.

After his November 2011 arrest, Zaldivar-Orona posted bond, but later failed to appear for official proceedings as required. He remained at large since that time.

Authorities gathered information revealing Zaldivar-Orona was known to be hiding out along the southern Texas border but managed to elude capture for almost six years.

Zaldivar-Orona was arraigned by a magistrate in Titus County where he is being held on $800,000 bond.
