TYLER, Texas (KETK) - East Texans have the chance to receive free dental services.
The TJC Operation East Texas Dental Outreach program is scheduled to go on until Friday, August 4th.
Over 500 people are expected to receive free dental services throughout the entire week.
"We're providing basic dentistry with fillings, extractions and preventative services as well, like cleanings and x-rays," Christina Horton, Tyler Junior College professor says.
The program was started four years ago. Different colleges, universities and organizations come together to provide the services. Medical and vision screenings are also provided free of charge.
Dexter Daffney is one of the students working with patients. Daffney had no dental insurance as a child. That is why he is inspired to help others.
"This is a good way for us to give back to the community and to do good dental work while we are learning in the process, because we are all students here," Dexter Daffney, Texas A&M dental student says.
There are no qualifications to meet in order to receive the free services, and all are welcome.
"Dental needs are one of the highest unmet needs in East Texas," Horton says. "We really don't turn anyone away. You can expect to wait, but I always say what you don't pay for with money, you pay for in time."
The program is being held at the Rogers Nursing Health Sciences Building on the Tyler Junior College Campus.
July 31st- August 3rd
