2 arrested in Marshall for use of counterfeit money

They had more than $2,000 on them

MARSHALL, TX - Two Florida residents are facing charges in Marshall for allegedly trying to pass counterfeit money at a local business.

On Thursday, July 20 at approximately 11:12 a.m., Marshall Police received a call from Hibbett Sports located in the 1800 block of East End Boulevard North in reference to a customer attempting to pass counterfeit money.

The customer left the store before officers arrived, leaving behind evidence after being unsuccessful with the purchase, but was believed to still be in the area. Detectives with the Marshall Police Department found the vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s in the Walmart parking lot and made contact with the occupants.

When approached by detectives, the occupants were in possession of more than $2,000 of money that appeared to have been altered. Upon further observation of the money, it was evident that the money was counterfeit and matched the money left at Hibbett Sports.

As a result, 37-year-old Waylon Franklin Simms, Jr. and 34-year-old Devin Kaye Harrison, both of Florida, were arrested and booked into the Harrison County Jail.

Simms and Harrison are each charged with forgery of money which is a third degree felony in Texas and punishable by up to $10,000 fine and/or 2 to 10 years in prison.
