1 dead in East Texas 2-vehicle wreck

POLK COUNTY, Texas (KETK) - One person was killed in a crash in East Texas.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Tuesday around 2:50 p.m., troopers responded to a two-vehicle major crash about three and a half miles east of Chester on US 287.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates a pickup was traveling east on US 287. For unknown reasons the truck crossed over the center of the roadway and drove into the westbound lane where it struck a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the pickup was identified as Bryan Alfred, 63, of Chester. Alfred was pronounced dead at the scene by Polk County Justice of the Peace Jamie Jones at 4:17 p.m.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as Steven Coleman, 43, of Jefferson. Coleman was not injured in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
