1 dead, 1 arrested for intoxication manslaughter in East Texas wreck

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) - One person is dead and another has been arrested for intoxication manslaughter following an early morning wreck.

According to the Lufkin Police Department, Jesse Antonio Huerta, 30, of  Lufkin, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and causing an accident involving injury or death following a crash that occurred around 1:00 a.m., Friday, in the 1900 block of South Medford Drive.

Police say an 18-wheeler driver told officers the victim, who was on a motorcycle, was in front of him, traveling southbound on Loop 287 in the center lane.

That's when Huerta passed the 18-wheeler in a car and switched lanes on top of the motorcycle, near the Denman Avenue exit.

The 18-wheeler driver tried to keep Huerta on scene, but Huerta ran away.

Huerta attempted to hide in a wooded area nearby, but was quickly located after officers arrived.

The victim died at the scene.

Huerta remains in the Angelina County Jail and bond has not been set.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
