Longview man with multiple prior thefts arrested stealing ammo

LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) - A Longview man with a long record of prior thefts has once again been arrested for stealing. Police said this time he took ammo from a local business.

On Friday at 3 p.m., officers responded to a reported shoplifting at Academy Sports and Outdoors.

Officers learned at the scene a man identified as Clinton Paul McDowell, 42, of Longview, had tried to get out of the store with several boxes of ammunition. Police said the man tried to sneak out with almost $400 worth of bullets.

Police discovered McDowell had 4 prior convictions for theft. He was arrested and charged with theft of property <$2500 with 2 or more previous convictions.

He was taken to the Gregg County Jail without incident. McDowell is being held on $5,000 bond.
